It appears that I’ve been talking about snacks a lot lately. Road-trip snacks, snacking on chicken wings, and freshly roasted pecans that you just can’t stop snacking on (talking to you, Shelby). Snacks are like mini vacations, fun little bites that step you outside the routine of breakfast, lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch, dinner, repeat, repeat, and repeat.
A few months ago, Starbucks added a new hot breakfast item to their menu called Sous Vide egg bites. Have you tried them? No worries if you haven’t because they always seem to be sold out here in Northwest Arkansas. They are velvety and delicious. And, honestly, super cute with their little bite size pieces and adorable paper tray. For the menu price of almost four and a half bucks… the price isn’t so cute.
Which got me to thinking. Why not make your own velvety, delicious, and super cute egg bites? And, for just a fraction of the cost!
The secret in preparing these egg bites is having a well-made silicone tray in the right size. I found mine on amazon.
- Two bite egg bites = one egg
- One silicon tray makes twelve bite egg bites = six eggs
Okay, let’s just do the math. $4.45 spent at Starbucks gives you two Sous Vide egg bites (aka one egg), which would be the equivalent of spending $53.00 on a dozen eggs (12 eggs x $4.45).
(Let’s hope they are organic, range-free, and chickens of royal lineage.)
Of course, I can’t prove that Starbuck’s only use one egg per serving but I do know that my silicone tray is virtually the same size.
Owning your own tray means:
- You can make your egg bites any way you like.
- You can make your egg bites with the seasonings you like.
- You can make your egg bites in multiples and freeze extras for the rest of your week.
- You can use your silicone tray to make brownies, muffins, banana bread, and polenta bites.
Now that I think about it, I should buy another one.
Happy hot breakfast days ahead… for all of us.
Eat well, my friends. Eat well.
